11. CRITERIA FOR CONTINUED ELIGIBILITY OF SECTIONS
The following criteria apply to groups which have been recognized by the MLA Board of Directors as official Sections of MLA. Said Sections may have either permanent or provisional status granted by the Board, as outlined in the current version of the MLA Bylaws. The following criteria will be used to evaluate a Section having permanent or provisional status or one having a change of status:
- A Section shall not change the name under which it was approved by the Board nor may it alter the scope of its original statement of purpose without approval by the Section Council and the Board.
- Officers of a Section shall be voting members of MLA.
- The Chairs of its standing committees shall be voting members of MLA.
- Dues collected by the Section shall not exceed MLA's dues.
- Section committees shall maintain close liaison with Association committees and conform to MLA standards and policies where national matters are concerned.
- Sections shall not take direct action with respect to Association business or in the name of MLA. Sections may make recommendations to the Council regarding MLA policies or actions.
- A Section shall hold at least one annual business or program meeting. Section program and business meetings may be held at the MLA annual meeting during times designated by the National Program Committee.
- Its bylaws and any amendments or revisions must continue to be approved by MLA's Bylaws Committee. See
Appendix 20 for Model Bylaws and Appendix 21 for the procedures for submitting bylaws revisions.
