Goals and Objectives 2005-2006

Goal 1: Recruitment, Membership and Leadership in the Profession

Objective 1: To promote and continue to advertise Sections membership and activities by production of bookmarks with Sections and SIGs listed, and stickers with Section Council and Sections logos printed on them, to be distributed at MLA at Section Council booth, at New Members Breakfast, to be sent to all chapter meetings with the MLA booth, and included in packets sent out to all new members from MLA HQ.

Who, Expertise Needed: Section Council Communication Committee, Section Council Representatives, MLA HQ staff

Time Needed: All year

Resources Required: $750.00

Product Outcome: Bookmarks and stickers distribute during MLA ’06 at chapter meetings, and in packets sent to new members.

Evaluation: Increased number of MLA members joining Sections

Objective 2 : To enhance the Section Council Booth at MLA by improving the method by which the material is displayed, by providing forms for members to register for Sections or to receive additional information, to complete the quilt, and to promote the Booth in the conference daily newsletter.

Time Needed: Completed by MLA '06

Resources Required: $250.00

Product Outcome: Members fill out forms, the Section Council quilt is completed

Evaluation: Increased number of MLA members come by the booth, and join Sections

Objective 3: To promote Sections memberships by distributing information at MLA Chapter meetings by Section Council Representatives at the MLA booth.

Who, Expertise Needed: Section Council Representatives and Representatives-elect, Section Council Chair, MLA HQ staff

Time Needed: All year

Resources Required: None

Product Outcome: Chapter members fill out forms to receive additional information about Sections

Evaluation: Increased members join Sections; lapsed members re-join MLA; increase in new members

Objective 4: To promote the sections lunch at MLA ‘06.

Who, Expertise Needed: Section Council Communication Committee, Section Council Chair, ’06 NPC

Time Needed: May 2006

Resources Required: None

Product Outcome: Increase in number of Sections scheduling activities during this time slot

Evaluation: Increased number of members are involved in Sections and aware of their activities

Objective 5: To provide input and assistance to Section Council’s Liaison to the MLA Professional Recruitment and Retention Committee (PRRC).

Who, Expertise Needed: Section Council’s Representatives and Representatives-Elect, Section Council Chair

Time Needed: January 2006

Resources Required: None

Product Outcome: PRRC chart of activities include input from Section Council

Evaluation: Increased in MLA members and Sections membership

Goal 2: Life Long Learning

Objective 1: To support and provide data to Sections in planning for MLA annual meetings.

Who, Expertise Needed: Ad-Hoc NPC Liaisons Committee, MLA HQ staff

Time Needed: Complete by April 2006.

Resources Required: None

Product Outcome: A document describing membership in Sections.

Evaluation: Less dis-satisfaction with section programs overlap.

Objective 2: To support and provide direction to the Chapter Council/Section Council Working Group for the joint program on Health Information Literacy at MLA ’07.

Who, Expertise Needed: Section Council representatives to the Working Group, Section Council Chair, Chapter Council Chair, ’07 NPC, MLA President-Elect

Time Needed: Complete by May 2007.

Product Outcome: Program at MLA ‘07

Evaluation: Feedback on MLA ’07 evaluation

Goal 3: Advocacy

Objective 1: To serve as the conduit for communication between the Sections and the MLA Board, and between the MLA Board and Sections when requested.

Who, Expertise Needed: Section Council chair

Time Needed: Ongoing through the year.

Resources Required: None

Product Outcome: Channels of communication are open between Sections, Section Council Chair and the Board and acted upon.

Evaluation: Section members are satisfied that their concerns are being heard and acted upon; the Board is satisfied that their tasks are being accomplished

Goal 4: Creating and Communicating our Knowledge

Objective 1: Change/adapt Section Council procedures to enable the Council to do its work more effectively, taking into consideration technological developments.

Who, Expertise Needed: Section Council Communication Committee, Elections Committee, Website Committee, Section Council Vice-Chair. Section Council Chair

Time Needed: To implement by May 2006

Resources Required: None

Product Outcome: Updated Section Council Manual; elections held on time and for the correct officers; time at conference is used more effectively

Evaluation: Feedback from Section Council members

Objective 2: Improve communication between Section Council, Section Webmasters and SIG Webmasters.

Who, Expertise Needed: Website Committee Chair

Time Needed: Ongoing

Resources Required: None

Product Outcome: Increase use of SECWEB Listserv

Evaluation: Improvement in design and content of Sections and SIGs websites

Objective 3: Continue to improve the appearance, ease of use and content of the Section Council Website.

Who, Expertise Needed: Website Committee, MLA HQ staff

Time Needed: Ongoing

Resources Required: Zoomerang or Survey Monkey, $150.00

Product Outcome: A website that is easy to navigate, print from, and content meets users needs

Evaluation: Increase use of the website

Objective 4: To assist in the development or revision of standards, as requested by sections, and to keep Sections up to date on national standards relevant to library and information science.

Time Needed: All year

Resources Required: None

Product Outcome: Standards on Sections websites

Evaluation: Increase number of Sections with standards

Objective 5: To improve how new Section Chairs, Chairs-Elect, Representatives and Representatives-Elect learn about their responsibilities.

Who, Expertise Needed: Section Council Communication Committee, Website Committee, Section Council Chair

Time Needed: Complete by May ‘06

Resources Required: None

Product Outcome: New format for orientation during the conference; a website called: Section Council 101

Evaluation: Feedback from new officers

Goal 5: Building a Network of Partners

Objective 1: Explore possibility of Sections inviting librarians from other associations to attend or participate in their programs.

Product Outcome: A recommendation whether to suggest this to Sections
