Though there are not many hard and fast rules for the look and feel of your Section’s website (there are some content requirements which we’ll discuss below), MLA provides guidance through the:

In addition, there are certain elements that are expected on MLA Section websites:

  • the official name of the MLA unit or affiliate must be readily identifiable on the main (i.e. home) and each subsequent page included in the website;
  • MLA affiliation must be acknowledged on the site’s main page;
  • it is strongly urged that the official MLA logo be used on the main page and preferably displayed in the top right or left corner position(s);
  • authorship and/or accountability for site maintenance must be readily identifiable on the site main page;
  • date of most recent update must be included, minimally on the site main page;
  • unit/affiliate contact information should be easily located throughout the site;
  • links should be provided to at least the MLANET main page within the MLANET site;
  • link to the upcoming Annual Meeting, with logo;
  • updated list of current Section officers, including Chair, Chair Elect, Past Chair, Web Editor, and Treasurer

Furthermore, if your links change (especially links to your officer list or your home page), notify MLA so that the links on MLANET can be updated to reflect your Section or SIG’s current information.

You are also expected to subscribe to theĀ Section and SIG webmasters’ mailing list. Please make sure that you are subscribed and that your email address is correct. This list is used to communicate policy changes and requirements for Section websites.
