Fantastico

Fantastico is a tool in cPanel that helps you install applications on your website. Some applications currently available include:

  • WordPress (blogs/content management)
  • TikiWiki (wiki)
  • Drupal (content management)
  • Moodle (course management)
  • Joomla (content management)

Many other tools are available as well, including portals, more blog tools, more content management systems, and survey tools. Though some tools are quite easy to learn and use, others can be more complicated. It is recommended that you only install Drupal or Joomla, for example, if you have the time to learn how to use it and/or the expertise. The NAHRS Section uses Joomla.

Of the Fantastico applications, WordPress is the most commonly used by MLA Sections. The Section Council website is built solely in WordPress, and many other sections have chosen to use WordPress to host their blogs. Wikis are not recommended for installation due to the major spam issues that have arisen on some sections’ wikis. They require continual maintenance to keep them spam-free.

cPanel provides access to Fantastico (De Luxe) through a link in its Software/Services area. Select an application to install, and click on New Installation to begin the installation process. Here are some videos that show basic Fantastico functions:

Most software you install using Fantastico must usually also be updated using Fantastico. However, we do recommend updating WordPress via the update links in your WordPress installation.
