Goals 2004/2005
Section Council Goals & Objectives
2004-2005
1) Recruitment, Membership and leadership in the Profession
The Section Council Communications Committee will continue to advertise Section membership and activities by providing bookmarks which list the Sections to MLA Headquarters to be distributed from the MLA booth at various Chapter meetings. They will also re-design the Section Council logo on the current bookmark and include a list of current SIGs. Bookmarks will continue to be distributed at the MLA New Member breakfast at each Annual Meeting and from the Section Council exhibit booth.
More Sections will be creating quilt squares for the Section Council quilt featuring Section logos to display at the Section Council exhibit booth.
A proposal for a Marketing Libraries SIG will be considered by the Section Council Section/SIG Review Committee..
A proposal for the Student/New Member SIG will be considered.
An attempt will be made to identify members who were unsuccessful in being appointed to an MLA committee or jury. These people will then be approached about becoming active in a section committee.
2) Life Long Learning
The Section Council Ad-Hoc Committee on Section Programming Issues will be working with the Section Council liaison to NPC 2005 to assist where needed and help coordinate programming for the San Antonio meeting.
3) Advocacy
All of the Section websites will be reviewed. Recommendations will be made to Section web editors regarding the inclusion of a link from each Section website to MLANET and also an email link to the Section Council website with a place to post questions or concerns.
4) Creating and Communicating our Knowledge
The Section Council website will be updated to include the new Council Membership Directory, new Council Committee members and a new Directory of Section Chairs.
A FAQ section will be added to the page which links from “Sections” on the MLANET homepage. Information about starting a SIG will be linked there to make that information more visible.
Revised standards written by the Hospital Libraries Section will be reviewed by the Section Council Standards Committee.
A mailing list for SIG conveners will be created to improve communication within that group and facilitate identification of new conveners each year.
A mailing list will be created for Section web editors in order to improve communication and support within this group.
