Goals and Objectives 2003-2004

Goal 1: Recruitment, Membership and Leadership in the Profession

Objective 1: To determine if it is feasible for discounts to be given to members who join multiple sections.

Who, Expertise Needed: Section Council Ad-hoc Committee on Section Membership.

Time Needed: Study and recommendations to be completed by May 2004.

Resources Required: None.

Product Outcome: Growth in Section membership rolls.

Evaluation: Need to obtain a membership list, which includes all sections joined by each member in 2002-2003, and compare it to a list made in 2004 – 2005 (if new policy is implemented).

Objective 2 : To support Sections in implementing the newly required position of Liaison to the MLA Membership Committee.

Who, Expertise Needed: Section Council Ad-hoc Committee on Section Membership.

Time Needed: Study and recommendations to be completed by May 2004.

Resources Required: None.

Product Outcome: Growth in MLA membership by increased communication between the MLA Membership Committee and individual Sections. Increased support for MLA Membership Committee activities because of increased numbers of Committee members.

Evaluation: Look at the activities of the MLA Membership Committee and the level of participation by Section liaisons.

Objective 3 : To continue to advertise the activities Sections and the benefits of Section membership by production of bookmarks with Section names listed, stickers with Section logos printed on them, and display of the Section Council quilt at Annual Meetings.

Who, Expertise Needed: Section Council Communications Committee

Time Needed: Ongoing throughout the year.

Resources Required: $500.00

Product Outcome: Bookmarks distributed in all new MLA member packets, bookmarks and stickers that are distributed at the Section Council booth at the Annual Meeting, and a quilt that is displayed at that booth.

Evaluation: Increased numbers of MLA members joining Sections.

Goal 2: Life Long Learning

Objective : To continue to support and provide direction to Sections in planning programming for the MLA Annual Meeting by producing a guide for the production of poster sessions.

Who, Expertise Needed: Section Council Ad-Hoc Committee on Section Programming Issues.

Time Needed: Guide to be posted to MLANET for member use by May 2004.

Resources Required: : Input from Section Council Liaisons to NPC 2004 and 2005.

Product Outcome: Guide to be produced and accepted by NPC.

Evaluation: : Feedback from Annual Meeting poster presenters will be solicited.

Goal 3: Advocacy

Objective : To serve as the conduit for communications between the Section membership and the MLA Board of Directors.

Who, Expertise Needed: Section Council chair

Time Needed: Ongoing throughout each year.

Resources Required: None

Product Outcome: Section members are satisfied that their concerns are being heard and acted upon.

Evaluation: No complaints about Council activities.

Goal 4: Creating and Communicating our Knowledge

Objective 1: To continue to improve the appearance and ease of use of the Section Council website on MLANET.

Who, Expertise Needed: Section Council Website Committee.

Time Needed: Ongoing throughout the year.

Resources Required: None.

Product Outcome: A website that communicates needed information to the membership and is easily usable.

Evaluation: : Increased use of the Section Council area of MLANET compared with 2002-2003.

Objective 2: To update the Section Council manual to reflect changes in appointments and committee charges.

Who, Expertise Needed: Section Council Chair.

Time Needed: Ongoing throughout the year to be completed by May 2004.

Resources Required: None.

Product Outcome: A manual that is up-to-date, understandable and easy to use.

Evaluation: Increased use of the manual posted on MLANET.
