Section CE Liaison Network

The duties of the Section Council Liaison to the MLA Continuing Education Committee (CEC) are coordinated with those assigned to the incumbent by Section Council, and are outlined here in the expectation that they will be able to draw upon the assistance of members of the Sections in order to accomplish annual goals.

Proposal: To form an informal e-mail group which will be used to solicit input from the Sections regarding CE announcements and issues which are being addressed by the CEC.

Purpose: The proposed Section CE Liaison Network will serve to facilitate ongoing communication between the CEC and the Sections. It will also be used to communicate Section concerns regarding CEC decisions, programming, policies, etc. The Network will serve to solicit input from the Section membership and thus will broaden the scope of the Section Council CE Liaison input into CEC decisions.

Members: The decision of who should represent a particular Section on the Network is entirely up to the Section itself. Some Sections may wish to have an existing executive officer or committee chair assume these duties, other Sections may opt to separate this position from existing offices.

Expectations of Network Members –they should:

  • read their e-mail at least once a week;
  • forward concerns raised by Sections members to the Section Council Liaison to the CEC for discussion before the CEC; and
  • either discuss CE issues to be addressed with their Section Executive Board members before responding and respond with consensus opinion, or, if given authority by their Section, provide their response directly.

Expectations of Section Chairs: Sections should decide who will assume the responsibilities of their Network member and forward the information to the Section Council Liaison to the CEC by July 1. Once formed, membership to the Network should be updated at least once every year.

Approved: June 1996
